Conklin's Dopple Looping and others are on their way to the Canadian National Exhibition which is held each year in Toronto. The fair starts in 1 week. I will try to go downtown and take some build-up pictures this weekend if I can gain access to the grounds.

There is something new which is being done this year; Conklin has typically in the past offered a "Pay one Price" deal where you pay a certain amount (typically around $20 CDN / 13 Euro) and can go on as many rides as you wish. Obviously this is the most desireable option as it is very quickly that you will spend $20 on ride coupons to go on more than 5 or 6 major rides!

This year, that option will be unavailable (well, you can do it if you buy your pass in advance at a special grocery store... which is what I will do). I am very curious to see how the public will respond to this. In the past I have heard coments from people at the fair that it is a "rip off" and not worth the money. Last year it costs almost $40 ($10 admission + $23 for the ride pass, plus taxes). For that price you can almost go to Canada's Wonderland for the whole day.

In Europe am I right in thinking that usually at a fair, it is made up of many showmen, who each charge a price for a ride at the "paybox" out front and you just buy a ticket for each ride right at the entrance to the ride?

Yes, that's right, usually, better say in common, it is like you sayed. But I think that this year at the "Cranger Kirmes" there will be something like "Bummelpass" where you can get tickets for some Rides cheaper. (Correct me if i'm wrong S )

Ahh... so it gets very expensive I guess. S

I am curious, how often do you guys go to a fair that is playing in your town? If it was there for 2 weeks, how many times would you go, and about how much money would you spend each time?

For example, the CNE is about 2 hours from me (1 hour drive to the subway, 1 hour ride on the subway to downtown)... CNE plays for 2 weeks and I went I think 5 times last year, spending about $40 each time.

Yes, it can be expensive, therefor i try not to take every ride. And because i'm getting older and older, i'm not in the condition to ride all of them S

Hello Ian,

usually I visit the Rheinkirmes, which near my home,
for about 2-3times. It runs for about 1week and since
I don't visit every ride, like I did in my younger years
(13-17) it takes me between 10-30€ per visit.

(A bit off-topic, but maybe interesting)

It's not the rides which makes the visit sometimes
expensive, it's more the rounds of beers which you
are enjoying with some friends.

I don't know, if drinking beer at public-places
is allowed in Canada?

The Dusseldorf Rheinkirmes is also known as a fun-
fair, where all typical Dusseldorf breweries have
their own pavillion. It's not that huge like the Munich-
Oktoberfest, but Dusseldorf is also a city of beer, the
dark Altbier.

Popular, not only in Germany is the Dusseldorf-Altstadt
(Downtown) where you can find 4 traditional Altbeer-
breweries.

fuechschen.de
(only German)

schumacher-alt.de
(only German)

hausbrauerei-zum-schluessel.de index_2.htm
(German + English & Netherlands under construction)

uerige.de index.html
(English & German)

There are some more, but since those 4 offers the typical
local brewing tradition and feeling when visiting there
own pubs, there's no need to mention.

Not in public places. It is illegal to have beer (or other drinks) in public so there are certain areas set up at the CNE which are only accessable if you're over 19 (the legal drinking age in Canada).

Hard to believe, but I actually dont like drinking as it doesn't do much for me. I'd rather be on the rides. S

in England its pure cash only although in recelt years we have started using the European set up where you buy a ride token rather than puying with money on the ride.

It can be expensive in England.

Rides can be as short as 60 - 90 seconds at busy times.

Ride prices at there higest I have seen

£1 = €1.40 ish \ $1.60 ish

Top Buzz (Top Scan) £5
Magic Mouse (Reverchon Crazy Mouse) £4
Booster £10
Waltzer £2.50
Dodgems £4
Superstar £5
Move It 32 £4
Big Ben(Shot & Drop Tower) £5
Drop Zone (Freefall) £5
Chaos (Afterburner) £3.50
Frisbee £4
Crazy Shake (Shake) £3.50

they are some of the higest prices I have seen but usually the charge half that at quiet times and you get much longer rides!

I've been to Toronto several times and for sure I did Wonderland and the CNE. My last visit was back in 2000, so when I take a look to the website of Wonderland I see that o lot of things changed there.

Hope to make it spring/summer next year. Maybe you want to join me?

If I'm still alive next year then sure, you'll probably be able to see me at the park. S

Zitat Top Buzz (Top Scan) £5

Let's see that's a total of about 7 Euro for a single ride.
That's what I would call in comparison with German prices as extremely expensive.

Let me remember some of yesterdays prices at Cranger Kirmes:

Turbo Force (Zamperla Booster) = 5 Euro
Power Tower 2 (Maurer Söhne Freefall) = 4 Euro
High Energy (Zierer Star Shape) = 3,5 Euro
Fliegender Teppich (Weber Flying Carpet) = 2 Euro

In advance to going to the Crange fairground I bought a Bummelpass which is a collection of coupons which enables you to choose from different (but comparable) types of rides for a total of 10 Euro.

This included according to my individual choice:

High Energy
Flying Carpet
Big Monster (Schwarzkopf Monster 3)
Hip Hop Fly (KMG-Afterburner)
The Real Nessy (Swing Boat)
Having a drink at beer pavillion
