I'm after a bit of advice for a trip I'm planning on doing in July.
The plan is to fly into Cologne/Bonn and take a taxi to Phantasialand and stay in their hotel for 1 or 2 nights. I then plan to travel to Düsseldorf for the fair.
Where I need help/advice is the following
- Travel from Phantasialand to Düsseldorf (public transport)
- Hotel in Düsseldorf
- Travel back to the airport (Cologne/Bonn) or a closer more accessable aiport for the return trip home
Taxi is cheap if there are 4 of you sharing. I've done it that way a couple of times now. It works out at about £6-8 UKP each, which isn't that bad and saves a bit of messing about.
Having said that, the rail link is now open so that will help
Cologne/Bonn airport is great too
You shouldn't have any transport problems getting to Düsseldorf from PL.
As for hotels, I asked a similar question on the ECC list the other week. I opted for an Ibis by the main rail station. Easy tram links to the Kirmes, or walk since it isn't too far away.
Train from Phantasialand to Dusseldorf is so easy. That Bahn website above is superb, and there's a free shuttle bus from the park to the station which is probably about 20 minutes long journey-wise (not sure how frequent).
Last time I went the BIG firework display was on the Friday night. I say BIG because I'd certainly never seen anything like it! The show was fantastic but even more so was the number of the people watching it!
